The KCBA team was proud to recently host a virtual workshop called “Architecture and Design: Build Your Own 3D House” in partnership with the TechGirlz nonprofit program. This organization’s mission is to inspire middle school girls to explore the possibilities of technology to empower their future careers and KCBA has been fortunate to collaborate with them on several workshops since 2019.
The interactive program began with an overview presentation on the architecture, engineering, and construction career fields. Then, the 35 student participants were divided into breakout groups where they first completed some hand sketching, programming, and diagramming exercises and then finally created design concepts for their own house in Sketchup software.
Several KCBA team members participated including Jennifer Elliott, Miranda Esposito, Stephanie Germanoro, and Ryan Orr. Stacy Thomas, who coordinated KCBA’s involvement and served as lead instructor, says “TechGirlz is a wonderful organization. It’s an honor to help support their mission and always inspirational to work with these amazing students.”
