Conversion of Academic Building into Cultural Center
The Pennsylvania German Cultural Heritage Center at Kutztown University is a folklife museum and research center dedicated to the preservation and promotion of Pennsylvania German heritage. This project entails the renovation and reconfiguration of an existing academic building to serve as the new headquarters for the organization. In order to establish an inviting, exciting experience for staff and visitors, the remade facility will include a range of environments to accommodate meetings of different nature and size as well as independent study, an archive with materials accessibility for those undertaking historical or genealogical research, and storage space with humidity controls appropriate for the preservation of sensitive materials. The architectural concept for the building has been inspired by Pennsylvania German vernacular and evokes the materials and colors of regional stone barns.
