Pleasant Valley High School
Pleasant Valley School District
BRODHEADSVILLE, PA
RENOVATION/EXPANSION
A major building renewal initiative is underway at this approximately 300,000 SF high school to enhance security, improve building organization and flow, modernize learning spaces and interior environments, refresh the exterior aesthetic, and upgrade infrastructure including integration of building-wide air conditioning. The school was originally constructed in 1959 with several incremental additions since that time leading to an inefficient layout with challenges in supporting the district’s modern educational program.
The project goals will be achieved via a series of renovations, additions, and repurposed areas. Five separate additions at targeted areas include a new main entrance with an administration/health suite and student services center, education segment with five classrooms, athletics expansion with enlarged weight and wrestling rooms and potential new team rooms, enlarged cafeteria with reconfigured kitchen and serving space, and support addition with a mechanical room and receiving/storage area.
A prominent area of the building core originally containing windowless classrooms will be fully reconfigured and activated as a collaboration zone via the introduction of a STEAM lab, photography studio, and flexible classroom. General building-wide renovations include refreshed interior spaces via new flooring, casework, ceilings, and lighting as well as a fully new mechanical system. Campus site improvements are also being implemented to simplify vehicular and pedestrian circulation patterns and increase parking capacity.
