This new 16,000 sq. ft., six-bay fire station is the result of a consolidation of three fire companies. To facilitate this often difficult transition, KCBA met with leaders from each of the companies throughout the design process to understand their history and culture and ultimately build consensus on design decisions. Sited on the corner of a sloping 2.5 acre property, the core of the new station is comprised of an apparatus room, equipment rooms, communication center, and offices wrapped by a training classroom, day room, fitness area, bunks, and showers. This configuration minimizes distance to the apparatus from any point in the station. Designed for maximum efficiency, the large apparatus room with a high ceiling provides ample space for equipment and circulation. Full glass bay doors provide extensive natural light. The communication center is prominently located and surrounded by windows for excellent sightlines to the rest of the facility.
