Upper Merion Township Municipal Building

King of Prussia, PA

Renovation/Expansion

This project entailed a 57,000 sq. ft. addition to the township’s existing 25,000 sq. ft. municipal building. The addition houses an expanded administration center, police department, new 18,000 sq. ft. public library, and a secure police parking garage. Operational and circulation patterns were planned to accommodate the complex spatial relationships of all the different departments as well as common spaces. A primary challenge was a steep grade in the area of the proposed addition and expanded parking. Another notable element was the construction sequence – all work was phased to allow the existing facility to remain fully operational during construction of the addition and a concurrent asbestos abatement initiative in the original building.
