This new 10,400 sq. ft. fire station is the result of a consolidation of two existing stations. As the site was very constricted and located on a prominent, heavily-traveled intersection in the City of Reading, extensive site modifications were required including altered traffic patterns. The small size and irregular shape of the site greatly influenced the configuration of the building which includes a large 3-bay apparatus room, a centrally located communications center, administrative offices, and living and support spaces. The interior atmosphere of the new building is heightened via ample views to an adjacent park while the exterior aesthetic melds with the surrounding architectural context.
